Withdrawal symptoms ...

You are probably thinking to yourself 'ENUF ALREADY WITH THIS KOKESHI MADNESS!!' but I am going through a kokeshi withdrawl right now. Made a stupid deal with myself to test my will power. I swore I would not buy a kokeshi doll this month. Yes, how hard can that be ya? Well it's very hard when there are so many cool ones available on a few sites. Like today, found Usaburo Kokeshi dolls (I said I would not buy one, nothing said about surfing for them ya) which had pretty good ones for okay prices. They did us all a favour by categorising them according to price but the thumbnails are rather small so really have to click them to see how they look like. One of my favourite is the one above. Borrowed the picture (hey, this is free advertising for them too so it's a win-win situation) from the site. I just love how they added a little kitty. See how hard it is to stay away. But I will try....

Think I am beginning to favour kokeshi dolls which are in the daruma style (like above) or corkscrew style. Those two are referring to the shape of the dolls. Like the smooth and no, it's not phallic like at all!

Learnt from this Kokeshi Dolls site that in the 'northern part of Japan, a new born baby is given a Kokeshi doll. The height of the doll will be equal to the length of the new born baby'. Isn't that an adorable idea? And you can order Kokeshi dolls for your newborn babies, grandchildren, godchildren etc. They will customise the doll to be the same length as the baby, and the baby's name, birth date, length, and weight will be brush-written on the doll in the traditional Japanese calligraphy style. It's a cruel world out there with such temptations *grins*
