Four days into having Chicken Pox...

Chicken Pox at my age is very unpleasant. Chicken pox at any age is unpleasant. If there are things that I can wish off this Earth, one of them would be chicken pox. Other than plotting my blisters/spots on a body sketch, what else have I been up to? Well let's see. Have been catching up on my DVDs. Have been watching Monk Season 5 cuz it's the easiest to watch at this state and finally sat down to google some about chicken pox.
All this while, have been getting advice and dos and don'ts from family members and close friends who have gone through chicken pox themselves. But am rather curious cuz I am panicking looking at the amount of spots/blisters that I have and I have no basis for comparison. Is it normal to have this many or should I be calling the doctor? Yes, me being so paranoid could be the overdose of Monk that I have been watching *laughs* I am also curious as to how many more days would this popping of spots/blisters continue cuz am itching like crazy!!
So this is what I found out from this site that's easy enough to read:
From the sites, there is a list of myths such as restriction of food that are dark e.g. dark soya sauce, because it will leave dark scars and restriction of certain types of food, like chicken, prawns and crabs for four months because it is “poisonous and gets very itchy.” Hmmm, I've heard similar advices and it may be a myth but I am just going to play safe and stay away from soya sauce and seafood.
This diagram on that site I found real useful. Let's see, I went to the doctor on Wednesday but had some blisters on my scalp and three on my face (but I thought it was stress breakout) on Tuesday and pounding headaches since Monday. Wednesday was when the red spots and blisters popped out on my whole body proper. So let's take Tuesday as day one then.
At the moment, I have red spots and blisters and no crusting yet. Am still waiting for the crusting part to take place. Patience is not a virtue that I have so this is really difficult part of the recovery process. So if I use this diagram as a gauge, I should be crusting on Sunday. So let's see how it goes.

Been told to not scratch so that the blisters don't break. What if they break on their own like the ones on my face? I didn't do anything and they broke on their own *wails* Does it mean that there's going to be nasty scars? As for on my body, how does one sleep cuz I have this fear that I will burst the blisters on my back. Have been sleeping on my side but it's not the most comfortable. Plus not getting much sleep cuz have to be up ever 4 hours to take my meds. So how is one suppose to get some rest like this? I do wonder.

Anyways, more updates on my not so interesting adventure as I take this chicken pox journey *rolls eyes*

oh, poor you, my total sympathies! scratching is awfully hard to resist.

About good myths, those dark and itchy ones seem like myths because I never heard of them and they do not make that much sense. OTOH I know from somebody who was going to have this surgery for scars if one is trying to avoid scars I think there is a vitamin one should take or avoid , just not sure which ( E? K?)...

I am suffering from chickenpox now. IT's HORRIBLE! Exams in 3 more days and I wonder if there's any cabby willing to transport me to school.

Am so sorry to hear about the chicken pox!! And me totally remember how horrid it was!!! What stage are you at? If you know a cabby who is like a family friend or a neighbour or something, then they might do it as a favour. Otherwise, some cabby might be a lil particular about taking you there. Also, need to check if the exams venue has arrangement for you to take your papers separately, i.e. room that's isolated from others. So sorry that you still have to sit for the exams. No other way?

Hi, am so sorry to hear that you're down with chicken pox. It will be over soon enough so be patient dear and do what's sensible basically...keep everything clean like sheets and towels and yes, Vits help. Doctor told me to take those Vit C tablets that you dissolve in water(which he said was much better than squeezing fresh orange juice). And I found reading about it helps so that we know what's happening rather than let the spots take control of us (especially if like me you have an active imagination). Hope the itching won't be so bad and you get better real soon. Hang in there ya *hugs*

Towels I changed daily but not the sheets. Changed those after a few days :o) Was alone at home so I couldn't imagine having to do all that laundry. Whole idea is just to keep everything as clean as possible. Hope you are feeling better? Itching still bad?

I develop chicken pox past few days ago.I think is on Wed...and my exam is on next week.My sis sais that the exam is not important because it's just monthly test, but I felt very regret if I didn't go for the exam. It's so suffering when having chicken pox.Sometimes I don't want to scratch it but I don't know why I accidently do it...Haiz

Hi there. I totally understand about scratching accidentally. It happens. Sometimes I forget (I know quite silly to forget such a thing but I do) and AFTER I scratch, I feel like kicking myself for scratching. But don't feel to bad. Just have to be a bit more conscious and try your best to not scratch.

Your sis is also right cuz it's just exams and more importantly you have to rest and get better. I don't have the details but there are several things you can do. If you REALLY feel that you up to taking the exam, I am sure arrangement can be made for you to take the exam separately (in a room at your school). But seriously, you are covered with MC so don't have to. Alternatively, ask your teacher to put the exam paper aside and ask if you could try the exam and if the teachers will mark (of course results can't be used) but it will give you a good sense of what the paper is like and how you would score if you had sat for it. It's just for the practice.

Hope you get well really soon. Take care!

Hey there everybody...

I'm sitting in front of my pc...
My face.... its horrible...
Yes. I have chickenpox. I believe I'm entering my "crusting" phase tommorow.

Sleeping is a drag, and the past few nights I wished I was a vampire of sorts.
I use camilson oil... I think thats it... anyway. It works it keeps the skin dry. Also use vits and I read that taking aspirin is dangerous.

Anyway. Best of luck to all you sufferrers out there.

*It's worse if you're an extrovert.. :(

Hi there

So sorry to hear you're down with chicken pox! But if you're entering crusting phase then you're nearing the end stage. For me, that was when it got even itchier and like you said, sleeping was a real pain. As for the face part, it looks worse that it seems cuz once the scabs fall off, it's not too bad. So hang in there ya.

I was actually so bored and like a prisoner, I was contemplating the many ways I could go out. But thoughts of infecting others and putting them through the 'suffering' made me stay in. But once my two weeks up and time to see the doctor, that must have been the first time I jumped out of bed and all set to step out of the house!! Hope you're not down with fever. I had them only in the afternoon together with headaches and those were bummers. My own cure for that - sleep. And that messed up my sleeping cycle. Good luck you and hope you'll have a speedy recovery! Cheers!

Goshh!! i'm trying to resist scratching as i type this.. arrggh!
well my case was really sad..

i was on a holiday trip to Bangkok, Thailand. on the way to the airport had fever and i believe it was quite high.

i resisted it as i've paid for the flight and hotel fares. The next morning when i woke up, had some minor spots on my shoulders. As the day goes by, it started to spread throughout my whole body and face!

i tried very, very hard not to scratch and as the weather is so damn hot, i sweat really bad and imagine the temptation that i have to bear with my friends for 3 days.

Now im back home, gonna see the Doc tommorrow.. (^^_)

Hi Constant Thinker, what I learnt the hard way is that there's no way to hurry the process cuz as much as I wanted it to be over quickly, it only got worse before it got better. Each day I would panick when I saw new scabs appearing especially on my face. But I resisted any temptation to scratch and peel (and still have a couple of tiny faint scars that I see today). And it only got better (as in the scabs fall off) after 1.5 weeks. That was when I had my review with my doctor and it was great to be outdoors but be prepared for people to still stare. It was humbling cuz I went back to work after two weeks and I couldn't have any make-up on me. What is important is that you take lots of Vit C (those tablets that you mix with water) because it helps with the healing process. I also use calamine lotion which had a calming effect. I did give the pizza guy a shock when I caved in and ordered pizza while I was under 'home arrest' cuz I was all white with the calamine lotion. But I was beyond caring at that stage. After a month, it was much better and I could put on make up. According to my skin doctor, chicken pox takes 6 months to heal properly. But I soon forgot about it after a month and became less conscious about myself when I went out to public. I have seen others having worse scars and I am glad I took all the precautionary measures while I had chicken pox. So hang in there ya. It will be over soon. I hope you're not having fevers like I did in the afternoon cuz it was horrible shivering yet feeling hot inside! How are you feeling so far. Have the boils stop appearing? I was so bored at some point that I started counting how many I had. We can be very creative when bored :o) Hope you're feeling better *hugs*

Hi

Thanks for that reply. I just completed one week today in my course. Completed the meds course fully and doc said to just let nature take its own course now. So far..am doing ok..no fever...no major itching..I only pulled off one scab near my upper lip..and hope it doesnt leave a scar..!! Aiyyah...dunno wat made me do such a stupid thing..it was just hanging like dat..u know??!!
The scabbing phase has just begun for the rest of my body. Dun have too many boils really..its like half a dozen on my one arm..and an equal 6-7 on my back..and tummy. Dats all. Not more. Face..just 3. So...hope it shud be ok.

Hope to be in touch with u more often hereon. Being down with CP and having nothing to do..I really enjoyed reading ur blog..read up abt ur trip to Paris..and London..So beautiful..sigh..!!!

U write really well and post amazing pics..keep up the good work. Am gonna be reading up ur blog more regularly from now on..and u have definitely inspired me to think abt resuming my own blog too..Lets see how things go.

Thanks Constant Thinker for your kind comments about my blog. Really appreciate it. Am glad to hear that you are recovering and totally had the same thing about removing the scab that was just irritating me. It was the same thing...it was like neither stuck nor coming off totally so I cheated and used a towel and 'accidentally' rubbed against it and ooops, it came off *laughs* pathetic yes but it was just so frustrating. Scabbing is a good sign cuz it means that you're done with the contagious stage. Just have to bear with the look k. And please continue to take the Vitamin C cuz I swear it helps alot with the skin!!! Oh, does your head hurt cuz I had them blisters on my scalp too and *whispers* I did rubbed my head many a times cuz I told my self, let it scar cuz since I had no plans to go bald anytime soon, it's not a problem *grins* You're on your way to recoverin and now is a great time to do all the stuff that you couldn't do before cuz just didn't have the time. Take care! *hugs*

Yeah..I will be doing exactly as u said. Abt the blisters on my scalp..I simply picked at them..hehe!! As u rightly said..nobody is gonna peek into my head to look at them. LOL..!! I am taking the Vitamin C as u advised. I also read abt taking the Vitamin E for skin. Not sure how? In tabs or as in oil to apply on my face and body when am recovered?? Am also here in Singapore like u..so if u have any good brand names to recommend and stores where to buy them..I wud be glad to make use of ur suggestions.
Otherwise how's life going with u? Which part do u stay in?? Am in Simei. Wud be great if we cud meet up sometime soon when am fully recovered..:-)
Looking forward to hearing from u..

I am really glad to find this ! I noticed these random ''pimples'' yesterday morning whne I tumbled into the bathroom, half asleep. They just kept growing in number and now I have it all over! [even a lot on my scalp!!!!] Its so irritating....ewww! But on the positive, atleast its the first and last time we'll get it!! I've got an exam next week and its french speaking! I hope the French guy I'm supposed to be locked in a room with for half an hour is immune to it!!!! I feel so saaaad that I have it now when my MAIN exams are so damn near =[ But then again, on the bright side, what if I'd had it during my exams? Ooh la la!! Pip toodle for now my fellow sufferers ! =) xxx

Zahra, I totally understand what you're saying. I was in a similar position where I had a musical to attend (it was King and I at the Esplanade)and with my scars and all and I am sure I shocked a few people but I think others understood. I actually made an exception that night and wore very light make up that night. After I was out of my 'home quarantine' I was off make up for at least a month (it was such a humbling experience cuz I had to force myself to be okay to go to work without make up!!) cuz I didn't want to clog my skin and wanted to just let my skin heal. This wasn't any doctors advise but just something that I did for myself. I saw my skin specialist cuz I was also concern how long it will take. He told me that after chicken pox, it takes about 6 months for the skin to heal properly. I almost cried when he tld me that and I actually told him it can't possibly take that long!!! But he said you cannot rush these things. Infact, I don't remember him giving me anything additional for my skin (I just continued my normal routine)and I just continued with my Vit C drinks each day for the next few months.

And thinking back, I think my skin wasn't as bad as I thought it was but at that moment, I felt like it was so bad that I must look like some monster that came out from somewhere. But I think it was just my fears magnified. I am so sorry I don't have a quick fix. Will ask around and see if there's anything that I can find out to help ya *hugz*

It really depends on individuals. I had for a few days (about 4 to 5 days if I remember it correctly) before they started falling off on their own. DO NOT PEEL even if the scabs looked like they are half off (thats when its super tempting to peel) but the scarring will be worse. Please don't rush it ya. When it falls off on its own (means that it has dried properly), less chances of deep scarring k. Hang in there!!

Yup, it helps to hear that we were all miserable when we had chicken pox but soon it will be just a memory that we don't want to relive. I do remember the itching part. It was so pathetic that I used tissue paper to lightly 'scratch' cuz it was sooooo itchy. But calamine lotion helped to calm the skin down. Be prepared for scab stage next ya (crusting stage). May itch some and very important, DON'T SCRATCH!! Hang in there, it will be over soon. Oh yes, Vit C please!!!!

Hiya guys.. REALLY hope all you that said you had chicken pox have made a full recovery!! i've got the pox at the mo, and i have to say.. it is THE worst thing i have ever had to go through!

I'm currently going through the crusting phase and am itchy as hell! I accidently keep picking at the scabs whilst im asleep and am so so sooo scared of scabs forming! especially because ive got the majority of lesions on my face!

But i'm just wondering, when some of the scabs first form, how long does it usually take before the scabs start falling off? Coz i cant wait to go out again!!

Ive also seen something called Miracle Cure that apparently removes scars for chicken pox, has anybody used this & know if it works?

Would realllyy appreciate some advice

Thanks!

i know how u guys are goin through, coz i've been there before.. havin CP is the worst thing u can imagine. I was already working at that time, & been on leave for a month.. mine was really worst coz it mostly appeared on my face that i couldnt even dare to look at my own self in d mirror..it really scared me like crazy!! i went to see d doctor at the early stage was thinking if there is a drug to stop it from coming out, dr said u just have to let it all out so it wouldnt come back again.. only meds he gave me is the anti-itch cream.. So i really have to endure the itchiness, ugliness, sleepness nyts and so on & so forth.. the pealing part is the most critical coz the when its there exposed chances of passing it to others esp with low immune system is very high.. so u have no choice but to isolate ur self so as not to spread the virus.. u just have to take it due course..keep ur self clean & drink more fluids.. But this experience have taught me a lot, it has changed me from being a complainer to being patient, it humbles me, i appreciate doing simple things at home to ease my bordome.. So friends, just hang in there, this too will pass sooner or later u will see urself sharing what u been through and how u survive! take care.. ciao!

I'm currently in the middle of my chicken pox. It's now all scabbing over, thank God.

Advice: don't use Calamine lotion, but use the cream version of it - the lotion increases itching. Also, take Piriton, both for sleep and for less itching. Really worked with me.

I'm just hoping the spots don't do too much damage. :(

Good luck guys! (Let's all try not to itch...)

I woke up this morning only to find blisters on my face. I noticed that they are all over my body. I was like shit..chicken pox (CP). I immediately ran to a emergency care hoping that doctor will say its something else. Sure enough, after asking some questions and blood test they diagnosed me as having Chicken Pox. It is weird because I had CP when I was a kid....a real bad CP. How in the world I have chicken pox again? Now my room mate is worried that he might get it too although he had it too in past. But poor guy is just staying put. I have been taking Tylenol for my fever and headache. Also, I heard that neem leaves can expedite the healing. Fortunately I don't feel like itching them yet.

hi, i m 38 vegetarian male from india, today is my 4th day of chicken pox, and yes the boils are not crusting yet.

i m on anti viral and immunity steroids. weakness is quite gone since past 1 day. the blisters have stopped coming. but the ones that occurred are there are still there.

i have been eating in peace meals, starting my day with milk, later i chew small piece of carrot, otherwise only liquid diet, a full glass of fresh coconut water. during lunch crushed cooked rice and curds with a very mild salt for taste and salt balance. and glucose powder for strength. nothing spicy.

on my family doc's advise, i would be going to the dermatologist in the evening to learn about coping up with the same. - J

i also have Cp right now.. i'm on my 5th day... scabs are starting to form.. it doesn't itch like before.. i wanted to go out but i'm worried that the ones formed on my face will scar.. is there any way to avoid the scar? i didn't pop the blister and i'm not planning on peeling off the scab either. should i apply something on my face to make the scar disappear faster?? is it okay if i apply moisturizer or should i just leave it that way and wait for the scab to peel off?

Use coco butter cream once the scabs have dried. It helps lighten the scars.

Hi, I just developed chicken pox for 3 days now. Almost half of my family got them from my niece when she came back from school one day. Apparently, she got it from her classmate. It is unusual for my age (17) to get infected. Didn't think the infection would spread like a wildfire though because I was told that I had been infected once when I was an infant. Nevertheless, I have final year exams coming up in next week and I'm so embarrassed to turn up with all my blisters. I probably couldn't even focus as my body is still itchy. But, the exams are so so so important that I couldn't dare to skip it. :(

First few blisters satred on chest and they are dried but still there few new ones are popping up on hands and legs. They are very very tiny and they are growing or drying. Is this going to be a big problem? What I have to do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's so gross! EW! It feels like a curse. T_T It actually started with a severe headache as well as fever on the first two days. Started to notice the blisters on the 3rd day, and now as I am typing this, it's 5:18AM in the morning and I couldn't sleep. It's so irritating and annoying. I honestly cannot wait to get to the crusting stage. T_T thanks for sharing ur thoughts guys, it really helps. And I hope everyone is fine by now.

Sadly during this period, I didn't get much sleep either - cuz had to get up to take the meds plus the itching. I remembered covering myself with lots of calamine lotion as that had a cooling effect initially and helped reduced the itching a little. But it will subside with time. But I also remember having naps in the afternoon as that was when I felt feverish. So grab whatever snooze time you can get. Hope you will feel better soon. Hang in there. It seems like forever but it will end soon enough. Take care.

this is the worst thing that has ever happened to me,I cant even wish my enemy to pass through this.on Tuesday i was healthy, all of a sudden Wednesday i started feeling some sign of fever with a severe headache I wrapped myself and hoped it will calm.after some few minutes I noticed a spot of puss on my hand,I blamed it to mosquitoe bite the puss was so soft that immediately i scrubbed it with pressure it burst.I cleaned it and feel relaxed. letter on I noticed another puss I did thesame thing.all this while I was bursting this puss I never knew they will be repercussions to my actions. when i noticed I getting relief from the cold I went for shower, men at the verge of releasing the shower on my body it was like hell in heaven I felt a sharp pain on those part I busted earlier I was even about running out of shower but I just have to endure the pain cus I needed to have my bath. after successfully taking my bath I noticed rashes on my chest,I am always cautious about my skin so I applied anti bacteria cream instantly on my chest and to the areas I busted my recent pusses. when it was time to sleep I couldn't I was having itching all over my body I tried all means to sleep but no success so I just forfeit that night by listening to music the next morning I noticed my puss increased my back was covered with puss some with blister I couldn't believe my observations It was now clear to note that it's no more a mere mosquito bite I applied the anti bacteria cream but the it didn't prevent the puss from coming out my face is now developing rashes my back is as disgusting as never before in my entire life I can't believe I am going through this I have been taking paracetamol and its 2:24 am two days I haven't close my eyes to sleep. I don't know my fate presently I am living with my sister and wouldn't want her to contact this from me I have been using tissue and sucks before holding anything in the house cus i can't even wish to see my worse enemy go through this hell not to talk more of my beloved sister. please any advice on how to maintain this to myself alone will be highly appreciated.

Many of us who have gone through CP know exactly how miserable you are feeling because we went through that too. The initial stage was hard for me too. I couldn't sleep at night cuz of the itching so I covered my whole body with calamine lotion and that seemed to help. I slept in the afternoon mainly cuz that was when I usually had a fever and body would ache. Hope you went to see the doctor too. I was advised to take Vit C to help with the recovery. And sadly, each of us had to bear with it until it's all out. I was staying with my parents then and because they were elderly, I didn't want them to get CP. So managed to coax them to stay with my brother until the contagious stage was over. I also had to prepare my own meals - but most of the time I didn't have any appetite for anything. So whatever I felt like having, I had. Comfort food like toast with butter and sprinkled sugar was my staple cuz it was the easiest for me to down and I actually wanted to eat that. Having said that, its better to eat healthily to help with your recover. Please hang in there. It will get better after this phase. Take care and have lots of rest.

Hi, i m 24 years old, its my fifth day with chicken pox. I wonder why those blisters on my extremities still remain like a blister, not entering crusting stage? T.T Any method to fasten the healing process?
The itchiness can be overcome with antihistamine such as loratadine, together with calamine lotion.

I got chicken pox after the holiday to Malaysia ( guys please be very careful when you travel and please make sure you're well taken care of) I returned back and got chicken pox exactly 12 days after and it was for me was worse than hell ( I'm sure hell is less painful than that) I'm still on the 4th day and it's killing me. First day I got very sick at work, saw a doctor and was misdiagnosed and they sent me back to work the second day I went to another doctor after they saw my blisters they diagnosed me and asked me to take it easy, sent me home and without proper guidance or any details about this sickness I was horrified, specially after I noticed the blisters were getting more and more and millions all at once on my body and I couldn't eat anything and slept the entire day, the second day after the diagnosis, I couldn't get up I was down with fever I was in bed the entire day and had no food as I was on my own I couldn't make it to the kitchen ( poor me) the third day I was so weak I couldn't move and I was feeling soulless, l immediately got ready made it to Emmergency ward after going through hell and they kept me there the entire day, did tests and gave me seline and sent me home. Now it's the fourth day and I'm still very scared. I am so concerned above my face and my skin, been taking care of it for years and now all of a sudden seeing me like this makes me feel so depressed. :(

just rest well and take mc for 2 weeks.
you may take panadol if fever or bone pain.
make sure do not scratch or make the blister burst, to avoid scar.
when you're getting better, take food that rich in vitamin C.
Tablet loratadine daily may help you to overcome itchiness.
For now, your body is "hot". so, drink more water.I drink 三脚票清热水
And, eat food that is easily digest eg porridge.

I’m 13, and would consider myself kind of lucky for getting CP now and not later! But let me tell you something it’s the worst thing I’ve ever gone through! I’m absolutely disgusted by how I look, I’ve had it for 4 days now and the blisters on my back are starting to turn to a blackish/brown color, the “crusting” stage. But I’m kind of scared of getting scars because I’ve been sleeping on my back I may have popped a few in my sleep. And everyday I wake up drenched in sweat and god know what! I smell absolutely disgusting. As I said today is the 4th day and it just started itching, yesterday my skin felt like it was on fire and I actually started crying. I get new blisters everyday. I had fever the first 2 days but then it stopped, one thing though that I’ve been having everyday is in the morning, when I stand up or walk I get super dizzy! I have blisters on my chest, neck, in my mouth, throat, legs, feet, arms, pretty much all over my body! The worst place to have it is on the scalp, omg it’s so itchy!!! But I mean most of us only go through this ones, so I just need to calm down. But I shouldn’t really be complaining because having it at age 25, I can’t even imagine how miserable it is! I’m just sitting her itching my blister covered scalp, I really hope this ends soon! Btw my brother had it before me, and he itches a spot on his nose so much, it turned black, really black! Then he peeled it of and he doesn’t have any scars, so don’t worry too much about scars.
