Mosaic Madness

Yes, I have embarked on another crafty project and yes, I have lost count how types I have dabbled with. Mosaic has been something that I was keen sometime ago but never got down to doing it proper until recently.

At work, an Australian lady was hired to teach the kids to work on a mosaic project that would be installed on the staircase. My cousin and I went for a session where we helped to paste some of the glass tiles onto the baseboard. It turned out rather well actually.

From whatever little we knew, we headed to Spotlight and got some glass tiles. Not the best place to get the tiles cuz they are rather costly. But the other art shops don't seem to carry any decent glass tiles to our disappointment.

So first project was to work on these framed mirrors from IKEA. My plan was to keep simple (as suggested by the book that we got to help us along). I wanted a flower or two at the corners. It started that way bit then it didn't look 'balanced' (and yes, I can get very anal about these things) so I added a few more flowers, some leaves and some of those twine things :o)

And no matter how careful you are, when dealing with glass tiles, splinters are inevitable and trust me, they really hurt!! Took me several days to complete this piece and several sore fingers later, I finished pasting all the tiles. But I still need to grout it so that will be done a little later after I complete a few more projects. It's going to be messy so might as well do a few at a time.

Am working on a second project which is a lid of a box. Am thinking sunflowers so don't know how it will turn out. Wish me luck :o)
